Cabinet Of Curiosities

Historically, the powerful and rich liked to gather together all kinds of strange artifacts from around the world, to show off their wealth and education. These items were sometimes genuine archaeological treasures and natural wonders - others, bunkum fakes that would make PT Barnum blush! All these items would be jumbled together in a specially designed cabinet –they were rarely organised in any categories we'd recognise today –their proximity was solely based on how well they went together and if they formed a theme. So that's the format of Cabinet Of Curiosities. Each week, there will be a subject given. The idea is that you can pick something that you think goes with the theme.

Wednesday 20:00, Friday 16:00

OFF THE CHART

Steve and Julian take a sideways look at the UK singles chart from the corresponding week in a particular ’80s year, playing the songs you don’t normally hear on a chart rundown. They also play three tracks from a hit album of the week and throw in a track from another country’s singles chart that wasn’t a hit in the UK. All this, plus the day’s news, TV and radio highlights, and the gigs you might have been to that week. What's not like?

The After Eight Show

The After Eight Show started in January, 2014. It took us about six months for us to discover what our show should be about but, ever since deciding that it should be ‘New Music That You Just Don’t Hear Anywhere Else!’, we haven’t looked back. It is an eclectic mix of (mostly) new music by unsigned artists, artists and bands who are starting out and building their fanbases, or in some cases playing kinds of music that do not get them included in the narrow playlists of the big commercial radio stations. Our ambition is that, in the course of our two-hour show, you will discover artists or bands whose names you don’t know at the start but whose music you will want to go away and explore after our show has finished. At the end of each show, we invite musicians to send us links to their music and we listen to everything that’s sent in and we play it if we like it. Typically, you will hear some electro pop, rnb, blues, jazz, acoustic and world music – always melodic, always innovative, always interesting.
